CBD infused drinks have been popping up all over the New York City wellness market throughout 2019. CBD stands for cannabidiol and is the second most prevalent component of the marijuana plant.
Unlike THC, which is the active component in marijuana that gets you high, CBD has no psychoactive properties.
CBD is an essential component in medical marijuana products, and over the years it has proven to help ailments like anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia and inflammation.
We tested out three of the CBD infused drinks that are making waves in the wellness community from the brands, Vybes, Recess and Mad Tasty.
The drinks are all-natural and have 25 mg of hemp oil in each drink, which is the highest dosage of hemp oil of the three. Unlike Recess and Mad Tasty, Vybes is not sparkling so tastes closer to an ice tea.
The Strawberry Lavender drink was gorgeous with a smell that wasn't overpoweringly sweet – despite the high quantity of hemp oil in the drink there was no hemp after taste.
Recess ($39.99 for an 8 pack) is not only being sold in high-end grocery stores but it has also been seen in the cooler at fitness classes throughout the West Village. We got to try all three of the flavors that the company currently has on the market.
The drink is made up of sparkling water infused with hemp extract and adaptogens and come in three flavors: Peach Ginger, Pom Hibiscus and Blackberry Chai. Peach Ginger was the most pleasing, it tasted a bit like a semi-sweetened flavored tea. The drinks all have 10mg of hemp oil in them and also feature American Ginseng and L-theanine, which is an amino acid.
Mad Tasty ($30 for a 6 pack) is another CBD-infused sparkling water and is the brain-child of One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder. The product is currently only available for purchase in shops in Los Angeles, but it’s easy to buy online.
Watermelon Kiwi was our favorite and tasted like a sparkling water version of the strawberry kiwi Snapple at lot of Millennials enjoyed as children
