Members of the Moorpark City Council held a meeting Jan. 2, discussing how residents of Peach Hills, Mountain Meadows and Serenata were making complaints of how they can smell a “skunk-like” odor and that’s due to the fact that they are adjacent to the industrial hemp farm located near Tierra Rejada. I believe that the people in charge of the hemp farm should continue to grow the industrial hemp because, in the end, certain people can benefit from it if used properly.
This hemp farm is fairly new and large, and they are growing to produce CBD. Certain residents of Moorpark, more on the southern part of the city, have previously made complaints because of the smell and they claim that they have headaches, are nauseous and have sore throats due to breathing in this odor.
The growing of hemp can enhance soil health by reducing the need for synthetic herbicides and adding diversity to crop rotations, which in the long run will improve the soil health. Although you can’t get a high from CBD, certain things like CBD oil will help a person become relaxed and make them less anxious. Taking away this hemp farm will be unnecessary because many people who suffer from anxiety or depression will lose a resource that they would have benefited from.
The residents should take in the fact that people deal with problems every day and they need something that will calm them down and reduce their stress. While the odor may have a strong scent, there are multiple benefits from growing hemp into CBD.
