CBD products could be removed from shelves in a year – The Times

Hundreds of CBD products could be withdrawn from shelves next year after the food watchdog announced a crackdown on suppliers.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) today set a deadline of March 2021 for CBD manufacturers to prove their products are safe for human consumption, in a move that is expected to kill off a huge chunk of the industry because of the cost of conducting the necessary tests.

The watchdog has also advised pregnant and breastfeeding women not to take the popular cannabis extract and has told healthy adults to “think carefully” before doing so.

An estimated six million Britons have taken cannabidiol (CBD), the legal and non-psychotropic extract of the cannabis plant, over the past year, making the product more popular than Vitamin C
