It is derived from the industrial hemp plant.
The oil from the seeds and the stems contain a very high level of cannabidiol, which is a cannabinoid. In that same material, there are other cannabinoids, as well, which are very safe, and probably work together with CBD for some of the health benefits CBD is well known for.
A liposome has a number of components. If you see the diagram, and look at the structure of a liposome, they start with fatty acids. The fatty acids in the diagram are those yellow things that look like strings on the phospholipid. In Nature, they appear as triglycerides, which means you have a glycerol molecule, which is three carbons, and a fatty acid is attached to each of those. That's what a triglyceride is. If, on a triglyceride, you take off one of those fatty acids, on the end—one end or the other—and you put a phosphatidyl choline molecule on it, and that's a molecule that has a phosphate group and a choline group. That particular element, it loves water. It is called “hydrophilic” [water-loving]. And of course, fats, which are those stringy things in the middle, are “hydrophobic.” They don't like water, they float on water.
When you make a phospholipid, you have a hydrophobic end and a hydrophilic end. When you put them in water, they form a membrane. It is a bilayer membrane. That's what you see on the left. You'll see the two little balls on the ends, which are the hydophilic, water-loving parts, and in the middle you've got the fatty acid part, which is hydrophobic. When you put those together in the water, you form a bilayer membrane sphere. That's what happens in the human body. Your cell membranes are built this way. You have a membrane of phospholipids covering that cell, not completely because there are many proteins and other functionalities there. But it could be 30-50% of the cell membrane, is the phospholipid. What you see in the middle is water. You can dissolve many things in water, like glutathione, B vitamins, and vitamin C. This liposome you see can be a carrier for many materials, and deposit that [intracellularly], bypassing the digestive system. You can get very high levels of absorption using this liposomal technique.
